Heavenly 100.

Every year one of the Dutch radio stations airs the Heavenly 100, a list of the greatest albums ever made. The station doesn’t make the list, the listeners do. They are asked to vote for their favourite albums, so it’s actually a people’s choice list. This was yesterday’s official top 10:

1. Pearl Jam – Ten
2. Nirvana – Nevermind
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication
4. Radiohead – O.K. Computer
5. Coldplay – A Rush of blood to the head
6. Metallica – Metallica (black album)
7. Live – Throwing Copper
8. U2 – Joshua Tree
9. Coldplay – X & Y
10. Greenday – American Idiot

In my list you would find the following albums:

1. Air – Moonsafari
2. Faithless – Forever Faithless
3. Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head
4. Jack Johnson – In Between Dreams
5. Jamie Cullum – 20 Something
6. Lamb – Fear of Fours
7. Live – Awake
8. U2 – All That You Can’t Leave Behind
9. Sting – All This Time
10. Keane - Hopes and Fears

Now, I am curious (surprise, surprise :)), what would be in your top 10?

That official list surprises me, although still a lot of good albums!

OMG, I can't believe your top album is Air - Moon Safari! That album is sooo dear to me and 'La Femme d'Argent' just gives me goose bumps and a tingle down my spine immediately!
It reminds of being with friends in the summer of '98 and being in love at the time too. WOW!!!

OK, so here goes for my humble opinion!

1. Air - Moon Safari
2. Love - Forever Changes
3. Kruder and Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions
4. Pulp - A Different Class
5. Longpigs - The Sun is Often Out
6. Placebo - Placebo
7. James - Seven
8. The Levellers - Levelling the Land
9. Garbage - Garbage
10. The Future Sound of London - Dead Cities

Oh wow, great top 10, DoGGa although I have to admit I don’t know all of them :). I had never heard of Love, Longpigs and James but thanks to the internet I have heard snippets of all of them now :) Interesting, very interesting.

How amazing we both have Moonsafari on #1. I was introduced to this album by a b-friend and I’ve loved the album ever since. I love the way it lifts me up when I am down, calms me down when I stressed and cheers me up when I am sad. I just love it!! Btw, I love Talkie Walkie too :) Your #3 could have just as easily been in my top 10 too. I listen to the K&D session a lot; they are on my iPod right now :)

Bizarre eh? :)

Yeah, not suprised you didn't get The Longpigs; your forgiven for that! ;-]

K&D, on yer iPod, me too along with DJ Kicks and all the Tosca and Peace Orchestra stuff they did too!

Talkie Walkie good yeah, but not as good as their first album 'Premiers Symptomes'. You may have it, but here goes anyhow...
It's all musical, no vocal tracks like All I Need etc, it's all like 'La Femme d'Argent' but you can hear where they have taken stuff from this first album and incorporated into the main tracks on Moon Safari.

Check it out here:

Track 3, 'Les Professionnels' got turned into 'All I Need' on Moon Safari.

Let me know if you come across anything new that's like Air or K&D, I'm always after new stuff!

Now there's a question, off the top of my head in no particular order and without looking:

Depeche Mode - Violator
AC/DC - Back in Black
Fluke - Risotto
The Beloved - Happiness
System of a Down - Toxicity
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
The Cardigans - Long gone before Daylight
Tori Amos - Under the Pink
Stan Ridgway - Mosquitos
Rush - Power Windows

Not a follower of fashion!! BTW Moonsafari is definitely a brilliant album;

Thanks for the Premiers Symptômes suggestion DoGGa, but I already have the album along with Moon Safari, 10,000Hz Legend and Talkie Walkie :) Turns out, I don’t have all their albums yet, but I am getting there.

I have DJ Kick too, not Tosca and the Peace Orchestra though. Thanks for that suggestion, although it wasn’t really a suggestion ;)

I don’t come across a lot of new music that’s like Air and K&D but here is a selection of other stuff I like: Blue Six, Morcheeba, Röyksopp, Tricky, Lamb, Goldfrapp, Zero7, Thievery Corporation, Sneaker Pimps, Hooverphonic, Portishead, Aphex Twin, Bonobo and Kraak & Smaak. Most of them you will probably know already :)

Hello Andre Veloux, so nice of you to drop by and leave a comment :)
Very interesting and diverse top 10. Who would have thought that one list could include Tori Amos, AC/DC, Depeche Mode, Rush and Stan Ridgeway :) Brilliant!! Never, ever become a follower of fashion!!

Nice blog and interesting to read other's list of their top 10. Have to think more about my list but would be sure to include: Ottmar Liebert & U2 just to name a few. I'll have to post a blog about my list sometime in the near future.
