2006/2007

"Let this coming year be better than all the others.
Vow to do some of the things you've always wanted to do
but couldn't find the time.
Call up a forgotten friend.
Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories.
Vow not to make a promise you don't think you can keep.
Walk tall, and smile more. You'll look ten years younger.
Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you'.
Say it again.
They are the sweetest words in the world."
- Ann Landers

Cheers to a New Year and another chance to get it right.
Let’s make it a wonderful and happy year!

Have a great 2007, Dakota!

p.s. did you eat oliebollen on New Year's Eve -- I'm so jealous if you did!

Happy New Year, KJ’s muse
And go ahead, be jealous…..I had oliebollen & appelbeignets :D
Didn’t they have them at the Dutch store? Shall I send you some oliebollenmix later in the year, that way you can make your own :)

Yes, they do have olliebollen mix at the Dutch store, but I forgot to pick it up! Actually, I've never made them myself (am usually lucky and get some from a relative), so I guess that might be a good project for next year. Except that I don't have a deep fryer.

Appelbeignets? Is dat hetzelfe als appelflappen? I forgot about those too. Nu ben ik dubbel jaloers! :)

Just checked my box and found recipes for olliebollen, pepernoten, and gevulde speculaas. Lekker! And also looked up recipes on the Internet for appelflappen and am now drooling. See what you made me do? Snort.

I usually just buy oliebollen at a store or a bakery, or get them from relatives like you do, KJ’s Muse. If you want to make them yourself, you won’t need a deep fryer, just a big sturdy saucepan or a sauté pan and vegetable oil (and oliebollenmix of course).

I think appelbeignets are also knows as appelflappen but I believe there is a difference. Take a look at this picture by one of my Flickr contacts this (and no drooling please) on the left: oliebollen in the middle: appelbeignets on the right: appelflappen :)

Hi Dakota,

I don't need a deep fryer? Good to know!

Hmmm, took a look at that pic, and I guess we had appelbeignets, although we never called them that. Come to think of it, we often just put chunks of apple in the oliebollen instead of raisins and called THEM appelflappen! :)
